Operation Holiday Homecoming
Many people from our legislative district have called me concerning the financing of Christmas week home visits for the 700 Vermont National Guard soldiers now in training and scheduled to be deployed in early January. Many of you are aware that the soldiers who are soon to be deployed to Afghanistan will be given a week off from training at Christmas but are on their own to find a ride back to Vermont. I spoke with Senator Shumlin's office and confirmed that he is organizing a non-partisan effort to raise money to pay transportation costs for Vermont National Guard soldiers to return home for Christmas leave. 'Operation Holiday Homecomingí will be administered by the Vermont National Guard Charitable Foundation, Inc. and is being supported by many Vermonters, including several legislators from Montpelier. We need to raise $315,000 to charter airplanes to bring the 700 Guard soldiers home for Christmas week. The Vermont National Guard Charitable Foundation, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. Contributions are tax deductible. If you would like to donate to 'Operation Holiday Homecoming' make a check out to Vermont National Guard Charitable Foundation, Inc. Be sure to write Operation Holiday Homecoming in the memo space. Mail it to: Operation Holiday Homecoming, PO Box 683, Essex Junction, Vermont 05453. Credit card donations may be made at www.supportvermontguard.org. Rep. Carolyn Branagan

Greetings to Residents of Fairfax and Fletcher,
The Fairfax Rescue Squad needs volunteers.

You never know when something's going to happen.
We're very fortunate in Fairfax to have such fine
volunteers ready to assist us in times of need.

The Fairfax Rescue Squad Needs You !!!
Want to be part of helping those in need ?
Drivers are needed for the Ambulance !
Call Andy at 849-9932 or Margie at 849-2936
after 3:00pm, for more information. Thank you.

Fairfax Rescue Fact Sheet
* Fairfax Rescue was formed as a First Response
service in 1975.
* Until 2003, Fairfax Rescue was staffed completely
by volunteer members. The problem with this was that
there were many times when the ambulance was not in
service because there was no crew.
* In 2003, due to the possible loss of our ambulance
license because of the times we were out of service,
Fairfax Rescue began to use part time per diem staff
to fill empty shifts (primarily week days).
* Since the use of per diem staff, the ambulance has
been out of service only two or three times for
vehicle maintenance.
* Fairfax Rescue currently has 23 active volunteers
and six per diem staff.
* More than 50% of our operating budget goes to pay
the per diem staff.
* The single best way to positively affect our budget
is to have more volunteers. One volunteer can
potentially eliminate three to five per diem shifts
per month. We need drivers as well as people who are
willing to train to be EMTs.
* The squad provides all necessary training.
* To keep the community up to date on what is
happening with the rescue squad,
we have set up a new web site.
While the site is currently under construction,
such information as what kinds of ambulance runs we
make and where they are will be available.
Membership information will also be available.
The rescue newsletter will also be accessible from
the web site.
The web address is:
